Overview:
ADVANTIDGE and Major Sports Leagues are teaming up for an exciting shift that is happening in the world of professional sports. As older legacy systems become outdated and cumbersome, new solutions for high-volume issuance of oversized ID badges, in addition to credit card sized credentials, make more sense than using third party service providers. The new, more advanced solutions allow for onsite instant issuance and give leagues options for durable PVC plastic ID cards plus options for high density paper credentials for shorter term application, like sporting events.
Challenge:
Printing customized oversized ID badges in any volume has traditionally been limited by a lack of flexibility with options for onsite issuance. Oversized ID badge artwork had to be pre-printed ahead of time, and the number of ID cards to be printed on also had to be pre-determined; requirements that eliminated any possibility of up-to-the-minute adjustments to ID card designs or quantity. For us, this started with golf and the PGA tour where credentials for the players, caddies, and press passes have been a staple for the industry and widely accepted for use to get on the green or close to it.
Solution:
Now the newest generation of oversized ID card printers can personalize and print over the entire card surface for oversized event badges on-the-spot using barcodes, QR codes, and even RFID card stock. Over a decade ago, ADVANTIDGE teamed up with Major League Baseball to implement this technology for the MLB All-Star Game. At the event, they successfully issued over 5,000 customized oversized ID badge credentials with dimensions of 3.5″ x 5.5″, and the system worked so well, that they changed plans to use the technology again at the following Championship Games as well.
